Passaic: Ritter wins in Wayne. GOP holds Ringwood. Wanaque Republicans hold seats in close race. One seat in Hawthorne, Bloomingdale too close to call.

Wayne Council: Democrat Fran Ritter beat out incumbent fifth ward Councilwoman Aileen Rivera, earning 731 votes to the incumbent’s 559, but Republicans held the five other seats up for election this year.

First ward Councilman Richard Jasterzbski, who was caught on video shouting expletives at a woman during a recent GOP primary, defeated Democrat Arlene Sullivan 551 votes to 511.

Second ward Councilman Al Sadowski defeated Democrat Dianne Douthat 1,017 votes to 802.

In the third ward, Republican incumbent Franco Mazzei earned 972 votes to Democrat challenger Karen Dowicz Haas’s 914.

Fourth Ward Councilman Joseph Scuralli got 1,065, beating Democrat Kenneth Tahan, 714 votes, and independent Christian Smith, 44 votes.

Sixth ward Councilman Jonathan Ettman was unopposed.

Ringwood Council: Republicans held on to all four of the council seats up for a race this year, keeping their 4-3 majority on the council.

Councilman John Speer, the only incumbent seeking re-election, won 2,165 votes.

Republicans Michael McCracken and Jaime Matteo-Landis each won 2,162 votes.

The fourth GOP candidate, Linda Schaefer, won 2,235 votes.

With 1,733 votes, Paula Tedesco was the top vote-getter on the Democratic side. Democrats Jennifer Hsu, Michael Einreinhof and James Martin earned 1,710, 1,722 and 1,682 votes, respectively.

Hawthorne Council: None of the four ward council seats up for election in Hawthorne changed hands Tuesday, though one of the races remains too close to call.

First Ward Councilman Joseph Wojtecki, the only Democrat up for re-election, won his seat with 445 votes to Republican challenger JoAnne Fitzsimmons’ 230.

Republican newcomer Rayna Laioso leads Democrat Thomas Bushnauskas by just five votes, 380-375, in the race to secure retiring Councilman John Bertolo’s second ward seat.

Bushnauskas lost to Bertolo 64%-36% four years ago.

Councilman Garret Sinning defeated Democrat Kimberly Maciejewski 501 votes to 353. Green party candidate Craig Cayetano received 171 votes.

Fourth ward Councilman Frank Matthews defeated Democratic Challenger Jennifer D’Angelo 455 votes to 311.

Bloomingdale Council: Democratic Councilwoman Dawn Hudson kept her seat, but Councilman Anthony Costa may lose his.

Costa trails Republican challenger Drew Juhlin by seven votes, 851 to 844. That means he trails the Republican challenger by .2%, and the race could be headed to a recount.

Hudson was the top vote-getter with 881 ballots cast in her name.

Republican Daniel Hawkins finished last with 809 votes.

North Haledon Council: Republican incumbents easily held their seats here.

Councilman Keith Salviano received 1,036 votes and Councilman Bruce Iacobelli received 1,073.

Democratic challenger Laura Lee Harding got 630, while her running mate, Nicholas Zeitlinger, got 604.

Haledon Council: Democratic incumbents Mounir Almaita and Nereyda Curiel trampled their Republican challengers in this heavily-Democratic Burough.

Almaita won 585 votes and Curiel got 591.

Republican challengers Frank Claero and Ramzy Yamisha got 222 and 216 votes, respectively.

Pompton Lakes Mayor & Council: Republican incumbents easily held seats here.

Mayor Michael Serra defeated Democratic Challenger Carl Padula 1,321 votes to 856.

Councilmembers Jennifer Polidori and William Baig got 1,241 and 1,265 votes, respectively.

Democratic challenger Peter Chazotte got 849 votes, and challenger Edward Meakem had 882 ballots cast in his name.

Prospect Park Council: Republican challenger Maria Emma Anderson didn’t come close to unseating either of the two Democratic incumbents seeking re-election.

Anderson got 191 votes. Councilman Adnan Zakaria got 570 votes, and Councilman Anand Shah got 601.

West Milford Mayor: Republican Mayor Michele Dale easily beat Democratic challenger Robert Nicholson Tuesday, earning 3,776 votes to Nicholson’s 1,159.

Republican Councilmen Kevin Goodsir and Warren Gross ran unopposed.

Wanaque Council: Republican incumbents won re-election by relatively narrow margins here.

Councilman Edward Leonard won 1,419 votes, running just 30 votes ahead of Democratic challenger Matthew Palmieri.

Incumbent Dominick Cortellessa won 1,286 votes, and Democratic challenger Henry Mendoza received 1,086.
