Singleton: Hugin aligns himself with racism

A Democratic State Senator says that GOP U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin has chosen to stand with racists and bigots – and Donald Trump — after accepting the endorsement of a controversial Republican Assemblyman who has touts the confederate flag and referred to a female rival as a “bitch.”

“The news that Bob Hugin accepted Assemblyman Parker Space’s endorsement is a straightforward indication of what he stands for – and even worse – what he doesn’t,” said State Sen. Troy Singleton (D-Palmyra).  “By aligning himself with racism and bigotry, he is sending a clear message that if he were elected to the U.S. Senate, he would stand with those that willfully and blindly adhere to the menacing, bullying policies of the Trump Administration.”

Space received statewide attention last summer after he posted a photo on his Facebook page standing in front of a confederate flag.  He also caught heat when POLITICO reported that he referred to his Assembly opponent as a “bitch.”

“Instead, New Jersey needs a voice that will continue to stand up and not divide; one that will disavow hate speech and not encourage it; and one that will say once and for all, take your hate elsewhere,” said Singleton.

On Sunday, Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter (D-Paterson) also bashed Hugin for accepting Space’s endorsement.
