Hirsh Singh formally entered the race for Frank LoBiondo’s congressional seat today, pledging support for President Trump and saying he will stand up to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
A software engineer who won 10% of the vote in the 2017 Republican gubernatorial primary after his father loaned $1 million to the campaign, Singh had initially entered the race for U.S. Senate. He agreed switch to the 2nd district House race after party leaders promised him organization lines, sources said. The same sources said that Singh has promised to put $2 million into the race.
Republicans had struggled to find a candidate to replace LoBiondo, a Republican who has held the seat for the last 24 years. Many view the likely Democratic nominee, State Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis), as the favorite to flip the seat. Van Drew must still get through a primary against three challengers coming at him from the left.
“South Jersey deserves a conservative champion in Congress – someone who will defend the President’s agenda, fight to bring our fair share of tax dollars back to South Jersey, and stand up to Nancy Pelosi and the radical left,” Singh said. “The President’s agenda of slashing regulations, cutting taxes, and returning decision-making to state and local governments is working to grow the economy and must be supported.
Over the next few weeks, Singh will face a series of county conventions for party line endorsements against six other candidates: former Atlantic County Freeholder Seth Grossman, Somers Point Councilman James Toto, retired FBI agent Robert Turksavage, attorney John Zarych, defense contractor Brian Fitzherbert, and Trump activist Mark McGovern.
