Reynolds-Jackson wins Assembly seat

Section 2

Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, a Trenton City Councilwoman and the Mercer County Democratic chair, defeated Freeholder Anthony Verrelli in a special election for the New Jersey State Assembly.

Reynolds-Jackson will replace Elizabeth Muoio, who was appointed State Treasurer by Gov. Phil Murphy.

Reynolds-Jackson won by a vote of 94-77, a 55%-45% margin on the second ballot after West Windsor Councilwoman Ayesha Hamilton backed on on the second ballot.

The special election convention will create a vacancy in Reynolds-Jackson’s East Ward council seat, and a new vote for City Council Vice President.
