Morris Democrat running for Senate

By David Wildstein, February 09 2018 10:05 pm

A Democrat who lost a Morris County Freeholder race by 40,000 votes two years ago has decided to run for the United States Senate.

Mitchell Horn, a corporate finance manager from Montville, is seeking party support to run in the Democratic primary against Bob Menendez.  He is expected to compete for the organization line in some counties, according to a party source familiar with Horn’s calls to Democratic leaders.

Horn grew up in Connecticut and moved to New Jersey in ten years ago  to take a job at Nestle.

As a freeholder candidate, Horn proposed casino gambling off Route 80 in Mount Arlington.  That won’t fly in South Jersey, where opposition to legalized gambling in North Jersey is fierce – as if that was the only reason this candidacy is a bit of a reach.

Michael Starr Hopkins, a former public defender who worked on the Obama and Clinton campaigns, has already announced his challenge to Menendez.
