A group of North Jersey mayors are expected to call on legislators to pass statewide earned sick day legislation next week.
Ras Baraka (Newark), Steven Fulop (Jersey City), Hector Lora (Passaic) Tim Dougherty (Morristown), Robert Jackson (Montclair), and Michael Venezia (Bloomfield) will speech at a press conference at Newark City Hall on Monday asking the state to follow the lead of their municipalities, which have adopted earned sick day policies.
New Jersey Working Families, which is organizing the event along with several labor and environmental groups, says that 1.2 million New Jersey workers do not have earned sick days, and that 25% gave been fired or had their job threatened for taking sick days.
