Democrats are infiltrating the Republican Party, GOP congressional candidate Steve Lonegan.
The Lonegan campaign alleges that his primary opponent, John McCann, is getting help from two Republican mayors who support Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff): Vernon Mayor Harry Shortway and his father, also named Harry Shortway, the Mayor of Midland Park.
According to the Lonegan campaign, the two Shortways are hosting an event for McCann at their restaurant in Hawthorne this Sunday. McCann and Shortway of Midland Park were colleagues when they both worked for Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino, who used to be a Republican but now runs as a Democrat.
Team Lonegan has two questions:
1. McCann claims to be a loyal Republican, but why are two Republican supporters of the Democrat incumbent supporting him?
2. Are the Democrats attempting to pick the winner of the Republican primary for Congress in the 5th District?
If we were to try to pick the Republican candidate it would be Steve Lonegan.
