Republican Bob Hugin, who is expected to announce his candidacy for the U.S. Senate tomorrow, has hired Chris Russell, one of the state’s top political consultants, to work on his campaign.
Russell, the owner at Checkmate Strategies, has been a force in New Jersey politics for most of the last twenty years. He engineered the successful congressional campaigns of Tom MacArthur and Jon Runyan, and the 2017 election of State Sen. Chris Brown in the 2nd legislative district.
Hugin, 63, retired last month from Celgene and is expected to self-fund his bid to unseat incumbent Bob Menendez.
