U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton) is in the best cash position of the candidates running in New Jersey’s 7th district. The five-term incumbent has raised $790,609 and has $607,730 in the bank. The real news is that the group of Democrats seeking to challenge him have collectively raised nearly $2 million.
Lisa Mandelblatt has raised the most: $659,023. She’s self-funded almost half of that, not that New Jerseyans have a problem with that. She’s also spent the most so far and has $414,239 in her treasury.
Tom Malinowski has brought in $528,471 and has $446,082 cash-on-hand. He appears to be leveraging his connections as a former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State. His donor list has some impressive names, like Caroline Kennedy, Barbra Streisand, Philip Roth, Samantha Power, Susan Rice, Orin Kramer, George and Andrea Soros, Katherine Bradley, Michael Blumenthal, and Chelsea Clinton’s husband, Marc Mezvinsky.
Linda Weber, who has already secured organization lines in Somerset and Essex counties, has raised $318,484 and has $132,590 remaining.
Two young Democrats who seem to be impressing people on the campaign trail have also raised an impressive amount of money for political newcomers: Goutam Jois has brought in $282,410 and his $259,181 cash on hand, and Scott Salmon has raised $94,126.
Peter Jacob, Lance’s 2016 opponent, has raised $100,756, but has just $27,102 left.
Lindsay Brown, a progressive challenging Lance in the GOP primary, is already $553 in debt.
