Blood apologizes for Facebook post

Section 2

Mendham Township Deputy Mayor Rick Blood has taken a conciliatory tone after a Facebook post on immigration became a political hot potato, apologizing for his comments and accepting responsibility for actions.  He is expected to issue a similar apology to his own constituents at a Township Council meeting tonight, and take steps to keep his commentary limited to local government issues.

“This has led to some introspection. This original post, copied and intended to be thought provoking and provocative certainly exceeded expectations. The purpose of the post was to illustrate, however poorly, one of the reasons our President was elected. Which was to clear the log jams in Washington,” Blood said.  “Apologize for fanning the flames.”

He acknowledged that his post will be viewed as offensive, but says that was never his intent.

“It is out in the public sphere and as such it is likely to exist in the digital world for quite a while. I apologize for the post. There are those who will take advantage of this post to support their own position unfortunately on both sides of the issue,” Blood said.
