Bergen: Dems outspend GOP 11-1

Under Chairman Lou Stellato’s leadership, Democrats raised $1,100,119 in 2017, the most of any county Democratic organization in the state.  The won their county and legislative races and ousted several Republican incumbents at the municipal level.

Bergen County Republicans raised $97,491 and burned through all their reserves by spending $131,272.  That leads the Bergen GOP with just $7,337 in the bank leading in to 2018, when Democratic County Executive James Tedesco is up for re-election and Republicans want to oust freshman Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) in a congressional district that marginally favors the GOP.

Bergen Democrats have $89,951 in their warchest and complete control of county government.

Republican County Chairman Paul DiGaetano is not expected to seek re-election in June.  Much of the party’s resources were depleted while DiGaetano took a clobbering when he ran in the GOP State Senate primary in district 40 last year.
