Mercury Public Affairs has landed a veteran of New Jersey and Pennsylvania politics to run their new Philadelphia office.
Al Spivey, who spent four years as the executive director or the SEIU New Jersey State Council and worked for Rep. Bill Pascrell in his 2012 primary campaign victory against Rep. Steve Rothman, will serve as Mercury’s senior vice president.
Most recently, Spivey was the chief of staff to Philadelphia City Council Majority Leader Curtis Jones, Jr., and led GOTV efforts for Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.
At Mercury, Spivey joins three New Jersey powerhouses, Michael DuHaime, Michael Soliman and Mo Butler. Their firm is one of the most influential in the state.
“Not only will Al further enhance our bi-partisan, best-in-class operation, he is an ideal addition to launch the firm’s presence in the City of Brotherly Love,” DuHaime said in a statement.
Butler said that he got to know Spivey while working for then-Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
“His expertise in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania politics are unmatched,” Butler said. “Al’s skill set will add tremendous value to the work we do in the public affairs arena.”
Soliman, who is Senator Bob Menendez’s top political advisor, says that the expansion of Mercury into Philadelphia positions the firm into “a key fixture in urban hubs ranging from Hudson County down to Philadelphia and beyond.”
“I’m confident that Al will play a key role in providing and implementing high quality solutions for our clients,” said Soliman.
Mercury already has offices in Harrisburg and Scranton. The public strategy firm has a global presence with offices in Washington, New York, California, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee and Montana, as well as London and Mexico City.
