A sign that Petillo isn’t running

One takeaway from last night’s Sussex County Lincoln Day dinner: Sussex Freeholder Sylvia Petillo will not seek the Republican nomination for Congress in the 11th district.

Petillo, 67, a former Hopatcong Mayor, has been exploring a bid for Rodney Frelinghuysen’s House seat, but at a major event in her home county, she declined to make any public comments and watched as one of the announced candidates, Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains), addressed the crowd.  It’s safe to say that if she were running, she would have at least taken the microphone in her base.

Assemblyman Anthony Bucco (R-Boonton) was not in attendance because of a prior engagement.  U.S. Senate candidates Bob Hugin and Brian Goldberg were there, as were 5th district congressional candidates Steve Lonegan and John McCann.
