Weber gets line in Somerset

By David Wildstein, January 25 2018 10:22 pm

Somerset County has endorsed Linda Weber for the Democratic congressional nomination to face Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton) in the 7th district.  This is the first county organization to award a line so far.  Former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Tom Malinowski finished second, but the win was solidly for Weber, a Berkeley Heights banker.

The news here is that Somerset decided to award their line by an executive committee vote and not a convention.

In 2016, Somerset represented 35% of the total votes cast in the Democratic primary, followed by Union (28%), Hunterdon (18%), Morris (12%), Warren (5%) and Essex (2%).

Union County Democrats are expected to hold off on an endorsement until after the special election to replace Jerry Green as Democratic County Chairman.

  1. Malinowski joined the race later than others, so he is playing catch-up, but those who hear him tend to be very impressed. My money is on the guy with 25 years of political experience at the national and international level, not on banker Linda Weber.
