Scutari denies Mapp for Assembly deal

By David Wildstein, January 26 2018 10:02 am

There is considerable speculation that Nicholas Scutari’s has a specific deal with Plainfield to secure votes in the county chairman race involving Mayor Adrian Mapp moving to the State Assembly, but Scutari strongly denied those rumors.

“There is no deal in place for that,” Scutari said this morning.

The speculation, confirmed by two Union County sources, was that Jerry Green would step down from the Assembly, with Mapp replacing him.  Freeholder Linda Carter would replace Mapp as mayor, and Amelia Mapp, the mayor’s wife, would take Carter’s seat on the Board of Freeholders.

Scutari said that he expects Green to finish his term in the State Assembly.

“Let me be absolutely clear: Jerry’s not going anywhere,” Scutari told me.

Green has been dealing with serious health issues and resigned this week as Union County Democratic Chairman, setting up a 30-day campaign to replace him between Scutari, the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Acting Chair Colleen Mahr.   Green, 78, is recovering from his illness and plans to return to the Assembly, understanding that the county chairman post was more rigorous.
