Sarlo drone bill now law

By David Wildstein, January 15 2018 12:25 pm

Legislation sponsored by State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge) to set regulatory controls on the use of drones was signed into law today by Gov. Chris Christie.

Sarlo had argued that the “proliferation” of unmanned aircraft sysyems has come too quickly for lawmakers to protect safety and privacy issues.  The Bergen County Democrats acknowledged that drones are used for legitimate purposes, but wanted “basic safeguard  to prevent misuse.”

The new law prohibits drone use that “knowingly or intentionally endangers the life of another” and also probits their use in the taking of wildlife, or while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
