Sabato: LoBiondo seat now leans Democrat

By David Wildstein, January 18 2018 10:27 am

Republican Frank LoBiondo’s second congressional district seat was moved from Toss-Up to Leans Democrat this morning by the University of Virginia Center for Politics’ Sabato’s Crystal Ball. This is one of the top non-partisan congressional race rankings.

“It may seem odd that we now list a seat that Trump won by nearly five points, NJ-2, as among the likeliest Democratic pickups,” said Kyle Kondik, the Crystal Ball managing editor.

Kondik noted that “LoBiondo, a labor-backed Republican who has been effectively untouchable since his first election in 1994, coupled with the candidacy of state Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D), a moderate who is very popular in his Republican-leaning district, makes holding this seat an uphill battle for Republicans.”
