Report: Sacco backs Stack for HCDO Chair

By David Wildstein, January 22 2018 4:12 pm

Big news out of Hudson County, first reported by InsiderNJ’s Max Pizzaro: Nicholas Sacco says he will back longtime rival Brian Stack for Hudson County Democratic Chairman.

Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to send the current county chairman, Vincent Prieto, to head the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.  No timeline has been set — Sacco hinted that it’s not imminent — but Prieto,  a staunch Sacco ally, has been anxious to move on since a coalition of Democratic leaders deposed him as Assembly Speaker last year.

Sacco and Stack are both State Senators, and both Mayors (North Bergen and Union City, respectively).  Their alliance, for as long as it lasts, unites two incredibly powerful local forces.  It’s also good news for Senate President Steve Sweeney, who is very close to Stack.
