U.S. Senator Bob Menendez continues to show strong party support for his re-election campaign, with Hudson County Democratic Chairman Vincent Prieto issuing pro-Menendez statement today.
“Senator Menendez is an irreplaceable leader for our state and advocate for the values we all share, but he’s also more than that — he’s an example of the American dream in action and proof that with hard work a Hispanic kid from Union City can rise to the highest possible level,” said Prieto, the former Assembly Speaker. “I will continue to stand by my friend Bob Menendez as he endures the coming months and I’m certain that he will be vindicated, both by our court system and by our voters.”
Since the Justice Department’s announcement on Friday that they will seek to re-try Menendez on corruption charges, the state’s political hierarchy has stood firm in their backing of the senator, who is on the ballot this fall. Gov. Phil Murphy, Sen. Cory Booker, South Jersey Democratic leader George Norcross, and Democratic County Chairmen in Middlesex, Essex, Bergen and Passaic counties quickly made it clear that they support Menendez.
