Pollster raises prospect of Murphy for President

Pollster Patrick Murray suggested today that Gov. Phil Murphy’s decision to use John F. Kennedy’s bible to take his oath of office is a signal that Murphy’s political ambitions might extend beyond New Jersey.

“I think if I were becoming Governor of New Jersey, it might be William Livingston’s bible that I’d be looking for, rather than John Kennedy’s,” Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in an NJTV interview.  “He’s just raised the question himself about his national ambitions.”

Murray noted the national policy focus in Murphy’s inaugural address.

“We can’t away from the idea of ambition,” Murray said, pointing out that Gov. Chris Christie’s approval ratings dropped after voters felt they were being used by Christie to further his quest for the presidency.
