Myers raised funds knowing she was leaving

Stick a fork in Christine Myers’ campaign for Congress, because she’s done.

Some Morris County Republicans are complaining that Myers (R-Mendham) held a campaign fundraiser on November 30, despite knowing that she was up for a Trump administration appointment and would not be seeking re-election this year.   The Daily Record reported that Myers was sworn in to her new post as regional advocate of the U.S. Small Business Administration on December 10.

Republican National Committeeman Bill Palatucci called some Republican leaders today touting Myers as a possible candidate for the seat of retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-Harding).

While federal law prohibits Myers from running for office while holding her SBA post, she can complete the remaining thirteen months of her term.  She would have to resign her post to run for Congress.

Myers has another potential problem: according to reports filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission this month, she used her campaign account after joining the Trump administration – something that’s not exactly kosher.  Myers wrote a $414 check to herself on January 12– $275 as mileage reimbursement “to attend meetings and events”, and $139 for “holiday gifts for staff and volunteers.”    She also used her campaign account to contribute $170 to Tony Bucco’s State Senate campaign.

The ELEC report was signed by Myers and her husband, campaign treasurer Stan Gorka.
