Gov. Phil Murphy will go on CNBC this afternoon to talk about Newark’s bid to land Amazon’s new corporate headquarters, even though Amazon has asked the twenty finalists in the race to land 50,000 new jobs to complete the next phase of negotiations in secrecy.
CNBC reported on Thursday that “Amazon has specifically asked cities to transition from what has been a very public process to a more secretive pitch.”
Murphy’s background is a salesman, and that could help New Jersey land the mother of all economic development projects – as long as he’s careful not to violate Amazon’s request of confidentiality on television.
ROI-NJ reported last week that Amazon told Newark officials not to discus future negotiations with the press. Within an hour, someone with knowledge of the negotiations quickly leaked details to that publication.
