New Jersey will withdraw as a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that seeks to overturn President Obama’s Clean Power Plan regulations.
The suit was filed by West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, a New Jersey native who sought the Republican nomination for Congress against Mike Ferguson in New Jersey’s seventh district eighteen years ago. He is now seeking the GOP nomination to run against U.S. Senator Joe Manchin.
“This case is completely contradictory to the values that we have in this state and to our commitment to clean energy,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “We acknowledge the reality of climate change and attempting to stop smart regulations due to baseless fears about EPA overreaching is reprehensible. Governor Christie and his administration supported this lawsuit despite a wealth of evidence that tougher limits on carbon emissions are necessary to ensure a healthier future for our state.”
