Murphy to keep Fisher, Lanigan in cabinet posts

Gov.-elect Phil Murphy is keeping New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Doug Fisher and Corrections Commissioner Gary Lanigan, according to a statement he released today.

Fisher, 70, served in the State Assembly from 2002 until 2009, when the State Board of Agriculture recommended his appointment to Gov. Jon Corzine.  Gov. Chris Christie anticipated replacing him after his election, but agreed to retain him in deference to the Senate President, Steve Sweeney.  Sweeney and Fisher are political allies and running mates in the 3rd district.

Lanigan, named by Christie in 2010, is a former New York City police officer who helped run the city’s prison system under Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg.
