Murphy cans most Christie appointees

By David Wildstein, January 15 2018 1:57 pm

Governor-elect Phil Murphy has accepted the resignations of most of Gov. Chris Christie’s political appointees, according to a form letter that is being widely distributed this afternoon.

In at least one department, nearly its entire leadership team will be leaving at noon tomorrow, with no apparent plan for who will lead its offices and divisions.

This is standard practice for new administrations.  The last time a new governor succeeded a member of his own party was in 2006, when Richard Codey was succeeded by Jon Corzine.

Correction: An earlier version of this story listed th elast same-party transition between elected Governors was Robert Meyner to Dick Hughes in 1962, but it was 2006, when Acting Gov. Codey was replaced by Jon Corzine.
