Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Kevin McCabe

Middlesex back with statewide power

By David Wildstein, January 10 2018 10:18 am

Middlesex County Democrats haven’t been this powerful since the John Lynch Era ended almost fifteen years ago.  They have an Assembly Speaker, Craig Coughlin.  Middlesex is dominant in six legislative districts.  Four Democratic State Senators all chair Senate committees.  Three Assembly Democrats chair committees, plus another three for Assemblymen who represent large portions of Middlesex.  After Chris Christie carried Middlesex twice, Phil Murphy won it by almost 30,000 votes; that came after Middlesex played an important role in Murphy becoming the nominee.  At the municipal level, Republicans victories have been limited to just a small handful of towns.  The power of Middlesex is a testament to the political skills of Kevin McCabe, an experienced insider and labor guy who became County Chairman just four years ago – and recently assumed his own seat on the Port Authority.
