Libertarians hope for Sabrin Senate bid

The New Jersey Libertarian Party is actively courting Dr. Murray Sabrin to run for the United States Senate in 2018.

Sabrin was the first independent candidate in New Jersey history to qualify for matching funds when he ran for Governor in 1997.  He was endorsed by the National Rifle Association and New Jersey Right to Life, and participated in the gubernatorial debates.  He won 114,172 votes statewide — the record for third-party candidacies until Chris Daggett in 2009.

If he runs, this would mark Sabrin’s formal return to the Libertarian Party.  He sough the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2000, 2008 and 2014.

A professor of finance at Ramapo College and a faculty member there since 1985,  Sabrin and his wife, Florence made a $250,000 gift to Ramapo College to establish the Sabrin Center for Free Enterpise in the Anisfield School of Business in 2007.

Sabrin has a Ph.D. in economic geography from Rutgers University, an M.A. in social studies education from Lehman College and a B.A. in history, geography and social studies education from Hunter College.   His is working on his next book about the financial bubble.
