Goldberg will enter Senate race

By David Wildstein, January 30 2018 9:04 am

Construction company executive Brian Goldberg will announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate on Thursday.

The West Orange resident ran for Senate in 2014 and finished third in the GOP primary with 25%.  He trailed Jeff Bell (29%) and Richard Pezzullo (25%), and finished ahead of Murray Sabrin (19%).

Goldberg will become the third candidate to join the race.  Pezzullo, a conservative, and Dana Wefer, a progressive from Hoboken, are already running.  A fourth candidate, former Celgene chairman Bob Hugin, is also preparing to announce.

Goldberg worked as an IT professional until joining the construction industry in 2002.  He is a 20-year veteran of Essex County politics, where he’s served as a Republican County Committeeman and on the West Orange Municipal Budget Advisory Committee.

He is the founder of The Empowerment PAC, which raised $250 — all from Goldberg — and contributed that amount to a congressional candidate in Rhode Island.
