From hospital, Green campaigns for Scutari

By David Wildstein, January 30 2018 3:12 pm

Assemblyman Jerry Green (D-Plainfield) is making phone calls today from his hospital bed trying to round up votes for Nicholas Scutari to be the next Union County Demcoratic Chairman.

Green resigned the chairmanship last week for health reasons, but the fact that he’s working the phones on behalf of Scutari is a sign that he is improving.  Sources say that he will move to a rehabilitation center soon.  Green is keeping his Assembly seat, and he is expected to return to work at some point.

The Union County Democratic executive committee will meet tomorrow to discuss plans for the special election to replace Green.  Representatives of Scutari and Colleen Mahr, the acting county chair, will negotiate a date, time and location.  Party by-laws require a five-day notice period for the election, which means it won’t happen for another week, at least.
