House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-Harding) has taken nearly $100,000 in campaign contributions from Boeing, which recently won a $24 million contract to upgrade refrigerators on Air Force One.

Frelinghuysen, who served as chairman of the Appropriations Defense subcommittee before becoming chairman last year, has received a $10,000 contribution from the Boeing political action committee each cycle since 2010, and has received a total of $73,000 from the Boeing PAC.  He has also brought in $21,500 in individual contributions from Boeing employees – for a total haul of $94,500 in recent years.

The Washington Post and other news organizations have reported that the U.S. Air Force has awarded the contracts, which will replace two refrigerators on the president’s plane.  The Defense Department says the units are nearly 30 years old and need to accommodate more meals for passengers.

Frelinghuysen has not yet commented on the expensive refrigerators, which were in the budget approved by his committee.
