ELEC will push changes in campaign finance laws

By David Wildstein, January 18 2018 11:44 am

The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission wants to strengthen political party committees as a way of curbing the influence of spending in state elections.

ELEC has proposed a series of changes to New Jersey campaign finance laws, including raising contribution limits, exemptions from pay-to-play restrictions, and requiring complete disclosure of all New Jersey activities by independent committees.

“We are hoping the new administration will seriously consider these changes and we will continue to work with both parties to bring about these needed reforms,” said Jeff Brindle, the ELEC executive director.

Brindle said members of both parties have indicated a willingness to back the ELEC proposals.
