Christie signs Bump Stocks ban

By David Wildstein, January 15 2018 12:19 pm

Gov. Chris Christie has signed a bill banning Bump Stocks.  Owners of the device have until April to turn them in, or they could face prosecution.

The bill had passed the Legislature with unanimous bi-partisan support, and did not face any significant opposition from gun owner groups.

Christie said last October that he is open to banning the device used by a mass shooter in Las Vegas.  He’s said he opposes infringing on anyone’s Second Amendment rights, but suggested that bump stocks are not guns.

The Rev. Robert Moore, Executive Director of Ceasefire NJ, had urged Christie to said the bill.  Moore said it would “set a positive bipartisan example to the US Congress, where such a Ban has to date been mired in partisan disagreement and machinations.”
