The campaign manager for Paterson mayoral candidate Glenn Brown has decided to switch his support to a one-time rival, Andre Sayegh.

“I supported Director Brown because I felt he had the best law and order credentials to lead this great city. However, over the course of time, it became obvious to me that a change of thinking was warranted,” said Wayne Witherspoon, who left the Brown campaign and has now endorsed Sayegh, a sixth ward councilman.

Witherspoon did not offer any details of his separation with the Brown campaign.  There had been speculation a few weeks ago that he former public safety director would drop his bid for mayor, but it appears Brown is remaining in the race.

“The trumpets call anew change at this critical juncture in our history. This is the most consequential local election of our lifetime,” said Witherspoon.  “We need a mayor that will change the culture of this city. A mayor who will dispel the myth that anything goes in Paterson. A mayor who will inspire our citizens to believe in our city again. A mayor who will engender trust and faith in our city government. And a mayor who will ask not what the city can do for us but what we can do for our city.”

Witherspoon believes Sayegh is the model, and he’s pledged “to work day and night over the next one hundred days to ensure his victory.”
