Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick appears to have criticized President Donald Trump in remarks made at the legislature’s reorganization today.
At least that’s how some observers are interpreting it. Bramnick was critical of the Republican majority in Congress, referring to them as “extreme,” and suggested psychiatric help for those who send out nasty Tweets – though he did not mention Trump by name.
Bramnick, a centrist Republican from Westfield, presides over the smallest GOP Assembly caucus since the 1975. Democrats picked up two seats in the 2017 election and now have a 54-26 majority in the lower house. Republicans have lost six seats since Bramnick became Minority Leader in 2012. He refused to endorse Trump in 2016.
